Hatha Yoga
“Health
is not a mere absence of disease but...a dynamic state of mind and body
that makes it possible for you to participate in the fullness of life.”
Suzannah Kenton
Why practice Hatha Yoga?
What distinguishes 'Hatha' Yoga?
‘Yoga’ means something like ’Union’.
From
about 2000 B.C. Yogis in India began practicing and developing special
techniques for balancing and harmonizing mind and body, to
ultimately realize oneness with the Source of Life.
Yoga
is traditionally a path of self-enquiry and self-realization....In fact
there are a number of branches of Yoga, so that individuals may
be drawn to different types of practice – all with this same goal of
‘Union’. These branches include:
Hatha Yoga is actually a generic term, and includes most Western style Yoga classes as we know them.
Influences
I
find insights and nourishment from various styles of Hatha Yoga
and other practices which work with the breath and body to balance
‘energy’ and feel a sense of Soul or ‘Connexion’. Inspirations
include Integral Yoga, Chi Kung, Tibetan Meditation, Kahlil
Gibran, Dance, Sound, Vanda Scaravelli, Erich Schiffmann,
Jaqualine Herron, and perhaps more than anything, Being in Nature.
If
you can’t make it to a Yoga class, take a walk in some beautiful
countryside, open your senses to the elements, let go of your ongoing
dramas and responsibilities, find a tree to sit near or a body of
water, and invite your mind to become still.
“..forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair..”
Kahlil Gibran
